Mobile Access Information System (MAIS)
 |
Project type: WIST Région Wallonne
Duration: 36 months (2004 - 2007)
Budget: 1.366.884€ |
Description
The objective of MAIS is to develop a low-cost, low-consumption, secure
smart card that will be readable from a distance.
Its main characteristics will be:
- Security: the information in the card, as well a its transmission,
will be secured with modern cryptographic methods
- Ease of use and installation: it will not need to be connected to an
external power supply
- Very low consumption and long life time
- Readable from a distance on a moving vehicle
The main applications of the project will be freight train tractability
and inclusion in windshields. For this last application, the project
partners work in close collaboration with Glaverbel.
The MAIS project will require and important research effort in
cryptography (to create secure protocols using very small bandwidths) and in
techniques to localize and communicate with the smart card.
Research Staff
